Meetings
Ovacome AGM, Christie Hospital, Manchester. 6th July 2002
About 45 members joined us at the Christie Hospital in Manchester for our AGM. It was held in the hospital's education centre, which was a lovely comfortable and self-contained venue. We were able to enjoy a tasty buffet lunch while viewing the photos submitted for the photo competition, read press clippings that have featured Ovacome in the past year, and be persuaded to part with our money by our excellent sales woman Helen Bayley, who was selling Ovacome merchandise.
As usual the event was a great opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. Following lunch we gathered in the auditorium to hear three excellent presentations from our guest speakers. Samantha Park, the clinical team leader from the Beechwood Cancer Centre in Stockport, spoke about how specialist nurses can provide help and support to women undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer, and Professor Ian Jacobs from Barts spoke on advances in treatments and screening, illustrating it with the example of a family where several members had been affected by ovarian cancer over the generations. There was also an opportunity to ask questions to the panel and for some general discussion.
Following tea, the official proceedings of the AGM took place and Louise outlined the highlights of the charity s activities over the past year, what was planned for the forthcoming one and ways the charity would be moving forward in the future.
A big thank you goes to Jane and the staff at the education centre who made us so welcome and also to MERK Pharmaceuticals who sponsored the event. We look forward to meeting you at the next AGM in London next year (probably in September). If you have any ideas about who you would like to speak at the next AGM don t keep it them to yourself, phone the office and let us know.
