Ovacome Launch and Sponsored Cycle Ride

Sunday, 15th September, 1996

An event is planned to mark the start of Ovacome, beginning with a sponsored bike ride from Kensington Gardens, passing the Royal Marsden and finishing at Alexandria Gardens in Windsor. There will be celebrities and doctors at start and finish to inspire us, as well as nurses and patients at the Marsden. At the finish there will be children's cycle races, a bouncy castle, stalls, teas, speeches, and plenty more entertainment for the whole family. It will be a great opportunity to meet each other, gain publicity, raise money, and have some fun. We want you all to come, bring your family and friends, encourage them to get on their bikes, raise sponsor money from everyone you've ever met and those you haven't, hand out leaflets, contact local papers, and generally help to make the launch of Ovacome a day that people will remember.

Donations

Fundraising is going incredibly well, with major donations coming from the initiatives of Alexandra Dargie, who did a sponsored cycle ride and from Martin Allen, who undertook a sponsored row. Many thanks also to Margaret Yarwood who organised a charity lunch, and to the friends and family who donated in memory of Ann Taylor. A big thank you to all those individuals who have made donations. Our bank account is under the control of our treasurer, Carrie Whelan. Cheques should be made out to Ovacome, and sent to her at 173 Pitshanger Lane, London, W5 1RQ.

Annual General Meeting

The first Annual General Meeting of Ovacome took place on Sunday, 7th July at the Manor House at Chessington World of Adventures. It was a great success, attended by nearly 100 people. Some, including my family, spent more time on the rides than in the meeting! For me, it was lovely to be able to meet some of the faces behind the letters and phone calls that I have received and it was great to see so many people brought together, talking to each other. The main business of the meeting was soon accomplished. The constitution was formely adopted, so that we can now apply for Charitable Status.

The new Executive Committee was elected, as follows:
