Screening Centre
A new Screening Centre has opened in London, based in the consulting rooms at the Portland Hospital in Central London. The Centre aims to provide a unique screening service run by consultants and specialist nurses with specific expertise in gynaecology, breast care, genetics and cancer. Services offered include advice about family history, counselling about cancer and ovarian screening. An initial consultation with a clinical nurse specialist is £50.

Provides written material and training courses for people setting up their own support groups in Scotland. Gives emotional support, counselling and information on cancers and treatments. Meetings are held every second Thursday of the month and provide an opportunity for patients and their families to meet others in similar situations and to obtain information.
Travel Insurance
Travelcare Limited, a private intermediary established in 1989, specialises in providing quality travel insurance products for all UK residents, including those not in the best of health. Major insurers who are members of the Association of British Insurers/ the Insurance Ombudsman Bureau underwrite Travelcare policies.
They have no age loadings or exclusions for disabled people and can usually help most people with pre-existing medical conditions. Cover can normally be provided for cancer patients if they are not currently undergoing, or awaiting, hospital treatment, such as chemotherapy/radiotherapy or surgery.
Cover is determined by a simple call to our Medical Line, which uses a similar system as that used for credit scoring. The operator asks the client simple questions and, from the answers given, generates a score which determines immediately whether the insurer will agree to cover the condition(s) declared and if so whether any additional premium, or special terms, need to be imposed.
Previously medical screening would have been carried out manually and required the client to visit their GP, or consultant, to have a medical questionnaire completed for the insurer.
Travelcare’s Medical Line, operated by Medscan (UK) Limited, an associated company, has removed this time-consuming, stressful and often expensive practice and replaced it with a much simpler system. It involves just one telephone call (charged at a local call rate), which can be made entirely at the client’s convenience, within similar office hours to that of Travelcare.
The great news is that Travelcare now claims to be able to offer cover to 98% of all the people that contact the Medical Line and their prices are very competitive.
