Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month 2012

Teal Tips takes off!

We are calling on all our members to join celebrities Carol Vorderman, Terri Dwyer, Sam Siddall and our patron Jenny Agutter in getting behind ourTeal Tips campaign this March, to mark Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month 2012.

The initiative, with Lena White and OPI's Teal the Cows Come Home varnish, is aimed at raising awareness of ovarian cancer and some invaluable funds for Ovacome.

Teal is to ovarian cancer as pink is to breast cancer. The idea is that by wearing such a striking colour, women will start talking about the disease and the BEAT ovarian cancer acronym of the main symptoms:

B is for bloating that does not come and go;

tips2E is for eating less and feeling fuller quicker;

A is for abdominal pain and

T is for telling your GP.

(To find out more about our BEAT campaign to help women and GPs recognise the signs and symptoms, please click here.)

We are urging members to buy OPI's Teal the Cows Come Home, with £1 from every bottle bought being donated to Ovacome and we hope that women will hold fundraising teal nail painting manicure parties. Some salons selling OPI nail polish are considering holding manicure parties on their premises, painting nails teal at a discounted rate or to loan out a beautician to manicure gatherings in members' homes. Contact Ovacome's Sonia Vig on 020 7299 6650 or email s.vig@ovacome.org.uk if you would like to approach your local salon selling OPI varnish about holding a fundraising event for the charity.

polishOvacome's chief executive Louise Bayne is thrilled that Teal Tips is getting such a warm reception and is urging members to get behind the celebrity activity. "We are delighted to be running Teal Tips for the second year running to raise awareness during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. It's a fun idea which young and older women have embraced, giving them a reason to be a bit daring and wear this on trend shade. They can look fantastic for a very good cause."

Support Teal Tips and buy a bottle of OPI's Teal the Cows Come Home for £11. Its supplier Lena White is donating £1 to Ovacome for every bottle sold. Contact 01923 240010 or visit the website to order online.
