The theme of this year

The theme for the 2022 Ovacome Writing Competition is 'Perspective'. This theme can be interpreted in many different ways - the possibilities are endless!. Your short story does not have to be about health or ovarian cancer.

Creative writing promotes happiness and mental wellbeing, so this is a great opportunity to express yourself, whether you are an experienced writer or have never written a story before. We can't wait to read your inspiring and creative stories!

The competition is judged by call the midwife stars Jenny Agutter and Stephen McGann.

Stephen plays Dr Turner and is married to screenwriter and playwright Heidi Thomas. Stephen enjoys reading as an escape from his script reading, switching between the "latest British fiction writing, at other times it’s strictly non-fiction — good science writing, or new perspectives on history, such as William Dalrymple’s ‘The Anarchy, and Tom Holland’s ‘Dominion’.

Jenny Agutter is an Ovacome patron and notes that last years winner "skilfully showed how an act of kindness can transform somebody’s life in her account entitled How I spent my weekend".
