UCLH Cancer Collaborative is running an important project for women in England who have a BRCA 1 or 2 genetic mutation. The project is focused on avoiding late diagnosis of ovarian cancer amongst BRCA carriers who have decided not to have their ovaries and fallopian tubes removed at present.

The project will last for a year and involve participants having a blood test at their local GP surgery every four months. Some women may require further investigations, such as an ultrasound scan – in London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, North Tees or Southampton - and would need to travel for these.

To date, they have been working with specific genetics centres and familial cancer clinics to contact women who might be interested in participating. They are now able to open the project more widely.

If you haven’t yet been contacted about the project and are interested in participating or finding out more, please visit www.uclh.nhs.uk/ALDO for more information and details of how to contact the project team.
