Could you help us to improve patient and carer experience for LGBTQ+ people affected by ovarian cancer?

Some of our members made us aware that many ovarian cancer resources are not inclusive enough and that there is not enough general awareness of the discrepancies in cancer care faced by the LGBTQ+ people.

We set up this focus group in 2019 to help us improve our understanding, based on personal experiences, of how we can better support our community and provide resources which are relevant, informed and accurate.

Actions taken so far:

  • We have adapted our language and media across the board to be more gender neutral, changing the way we address issues, share stories and gather information.
  • Healthcare professionals leaflet to be included in mailouts about not making assumptions in appointments.

We have more work to do to ensure we’re meeting the support and information needs of LGBTQ+ people.

We'd like to hear about your experiences of cancer, what information and support you felt was missing, what was helpful, and how you think we can work to improve overall patient and carer experience for the LGBTQ+ community.

The group is open to anyone whose life has been affected by cancer, whether you are a patient, carer, friend or family member. We will meet virtually, using Zoom. You can join us on your computer, tablet or smartphone, or you can simply dial in on your landline or mobile phone.

If you would like to join the group, simply fill in the form below and we’ll be in touch. Our next meeting will be in July 2021.

If you would like to know more about the next meeting or have any other questions, please get in touch at [email protected] or call 0800 008 7054.
