Trekking the entire coastlines of the British Isles might be a stretch for even the most energetic fundriaser - but not if the challenge is shared between many others, and can be completed in your own community, workplace, or even home. The Ovacome Teal Walk is a virtual walk where participants use a smart wristband to record their daily steps towards a sponsored target. This target sets individuals a daily goal of 2,500, 5,000, 10,000, or 20,000 steps a day. The FlagFit wristbands are easy to set up and track how many steps you have taken, calories burned and your sleep patterns too. They are available from our online shop for £25, or are free to anyone who pledges to raise at least £150. Encourage your friends and family to sponsor you, or, even better, to take part too. Remember that you can complete the walk in your own time. Anyone going through or who has just finished treatment might feel apprehensive about taking part in a sponsored walk, but even a small amount of physical activity can be beneficial, reducing fatigue, poor appetite and sleeplessness. Around 2,500 steps is the equivalent of a mile: a reasonable target for many, although we advise that you check with your doctor before starting any type of new exercise. Ovacome will tally the number of steps recorded by those taking up the challenge against what it would take to walk the entire coastline of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Isles and the Isle of Man.
