As we work together to stop the spread of coronavirus you can still bring your friends and family together for an event in aid of a good cause by using video chat apps like House Party, Zoom and Skype.

There are lots of fun ways you can raise money to support anyone affected by ovarian cancer during this difficult time and keep you connected to your loved ones during isolation. It is a great way to keep busy and get others involved in helping you organise the event.

Below are a list of fun and accessible virtual fundraising ideas for you, your family and friends. If you'd like any help or advice from our team, or you'd like to talk through your plans, get in touch with Ellie on 07470 601 571 or at [email protected]

Ovacome Teal Walk

Our Ovacome Teal Walk is a virtual challenge where you set yourself a daily or weekly step target and ask friends and family to sponsor you. You can work this into your daily activity, whether indoors or outdoors, get your friends involved too and make it a competition! Find out more here.

Below are some really fun ideas for fundraising events that you can host from home. Feel free to get creative and let us know what you have planned! Our team are here to support you, so do get in touch if you'd like to talk through your ideas. Call Ellie on 07470 601 571 or email [email protected]

Host a virtual dinner party

Using a video call service like Skype or Zoom, you can host a dinner party online. This is a great way to have family and friends connecting virtually, bringing loved ones together from all over the country (or the world!). It is a wonderful excuse to get dressed up and prepare some fine food. For some added fun set a menu for everyone to follow and award prizes for the best-looking dish.

Ask everyone taking part to make a donation (perhaps of the amount that you would have saved by not eating out). You will all be supporting our services and ensuring that we can be there for those affected by ovarian cancer when they need us most. Donate directly through our website, or set up a fundraising page.

Run a virtual cookery class

If you fancy yourself a bit of a James Martin or Angela Hartnett, it is a great time to share some of your favourite recipes with your friends, family, and colleagues. Using a video call service like Skype or Zoom, run a class live from your kitchen, asking everyone to make a donation to Ovacome. They could donate directly through our website, or set up a fundraising page.

Play a virtual board game

Get all your family and friends together using Skype or Zoom and play your favourite board games. People used to play chess via post, so there's no reason you can't play monopoly through your smartphone! Get lots of people involved and host a board games evening, asking everyone to donate towards our ovarian cancer support services. They can donate directly through our website, or set up a fundraising page.

Take part in a virtual video games tournament

Pick your favourite: Fortnite, Mario Kart or even Words with Friends...

Organise an online video game tournament with friends and family and ask everyone to donate at the start towards Ovacome's support services. If you're playing in teams, mix them up and have the pros playing alongside the newbies. You will be taking action and supporting those living with ovarian cancer whilst bringing everyone together during this period of isolation. Bond with friends and family by introducing them to some of your favourite games.

Ask participants to donate directly through our website, or set up a fundraising page.

Host a virtual Gogglebox party

Ask friends and family to all tune in to a film or TV programme at the same time, and then all chat about what you are watching using Skype or Zoom. It will be as though you are all in the same room! Ask everyone tuning in to donate to take part. If you are supporting someone you know affected by ovarian cancer, why not choose one of their favourite films or TV shows?

Fundraise with Facebook

Do you have a birthday, anniversary or other special date coming up? You can set up Facebook fundraiser and ask friends and family to donate towards your target, rather than buy you presents this year. You'll also be helping to spread awareness of ovarian cancer, by sharing you fundraiser with you Facebook friends (and their friends!). Find out more here.

Set up an online auction or sale

Is it time for a spring clean? Sell unwanted items via platforms like Facebook Marketplace, or simply start an auction by posting a photo of your item on Facebook and asking for auction prices in the comments. Make sure you mention that all proceeds are in aid of Ovacome’s ovarian cancer support services. Don't forget to let everyone know that you will be able to send the items when it is safe to and when restrictions on movement have been lifted.

Recycle your unwanted items

Did you know you can recycle unwanted items to raise funds for Ovacome? 'Recycling for Good Causes' allows you to recycle an array of items such as: unwanted watches and jewellery (anything from plastic beads to old broken gold chains); gadgets (such as cameras, games consoles, mobile phones, sat navs and MP3 players); old currency (UK & foreign) and used stamps. This is a really easy way to support the ovarian cancer community whilst you are decluttering!

Simply pop your items in an envelope, download, print and stick on the postage label we have a attached below, then put your items in the post! Ovacome will then receive the funds directly. If you don't have a printer, we can also send a postage label to your address.

Get crafting

How is your sewing, knitting, felting, jewellery making and crafting? This is a really lovely way to support anyone affected by ovarian cancer, helping them to get the vital information they need by selling or auctioning your wonderful wares. Why not take the opportunity to learn a new skill, whilst raising funds for this important cause? Crafting is also a really positive strategy for mindfulness and mental wellbeing. Don't forget to let everyone know that you will be able to send the item when it is safe to and when restrictions on movement have been lifted.
