Ovacome Day - Make a difference
Yes Ovacome day is fast approaching, and this year we have been concentrating on the national press. We have employed a PR Company who have been doing wonders, and we know of lots of articles in the pipeline.
Our main project has been a celebrity photographic exhibition, and a Celebrity opening party, to which you are all invited to attend. It is to be held on 6th April, at the St James Club Piccadilly. Tickets are priced at £30 each. This is the cost price of the event. We know that many of those facing ovarian cancer are also affected financially, so we didn't feel it was appropriate for the charity to benefit financially from its members. However it promises to be a superb night, and those of you who feel able to make an additional contribution are encouraged to do so. Tickets are available from the office on a first-come, first-served basis.
We know that many of you enjoy organizing local events as a way of personally contributing to the aims of the charity. This year we have several ideas for you along a party theme. The Body Shop have a branch of the business called Body Shop Direct.
They will send out a member of staff to your home, or work place, or social club, and do make-up demonstrations, and offer a make-over for the hostess. You could organise to raffle the make-over, as well as other items to incorporate a fund-raising element. Depending on the size of the group, you may choose to talk a little about Ovacome, and Ovarian cancer. To organise a party, or chat to your local organizer, telephone 0645 050607.
If make-up is not your thing, how about a wine tasting evening? Wine Rack and Bottoms Up run a fun wine tasting game called "Who's wine is it anyway". They will come to a venue of your choice, and host the game which runs along the lines of the TV programme. You and your guests have to sample the wines, and guess who is telling the truth. The team with the most points wins! They charge the cost of the wines opened, which depends on the number of participants, but your local store will provide more information. They should be able to offer a prize for the winning team. They suggest that the game works best with a group of around 25-30, but can do larger numbers if required.
Whatever you do, USE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPREAD THE WORD. Tell your local newspaper about your event, and Ovacome, and how you became involved. Give them a few weeks notice and invite them along to your event, that way you get publicity before and after. If you want any help with what you want to say, or need any materials for distribution at the event please call the office. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE. Good luck, and above all, HAVE FUN
