Research shows psychological support significantly reduces the fear of progression among women with ovarian cancer.

Researchers assessed the effect of three 90-minute sessions of psychological support that occurred 6 to 12 weeks after chemotherapy on depression, fear of progression, and quality of life among 63 women treated with chemotherapy for primary or relapsed ovarian cancer.

There was a significant improvement in fear of progression scores at 3 months amongst women who received the support sessions.

Other quality-of-life measures were not significantly altered but the researchers are continuing to collect further data, as the findings may change over time.
