My beautiful and brave mum sadly passed away in January 2020 after her battle with ovarian cancer. In 2017 she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and following a hysterectomy and chemotherapy, the cancer was kept at bay. However, in 2019 the cancer returned and unfortunately, despite further treatment, she lost her battle with cancer.

Throughout her journey, Sara remained positive and always managed to find the light in things. She took part in Ovacome’s touch of teal runway show and was their top fundraiser that year! Ovacome is a charity that was very close to my mum’s heart but also to our whole family. She made many close friends through her charitable work with Ovacome and she received invaluable support from the charity that made an incredibly difficult time a little bit easier.

Sara found a love for park runs during her battle with ovarian cancer and she was always determined to get a personal best every weekend. Therefore, myself and my best friend Ellen thought that the best way to honour her was by running in her memory. We are running the Brighton half marathon on the 24th of February and we know she will be cheering us on!

The money that we raise will help Ovacome carry on its incredible work and will allow the charity to keep supporting families and women battling ovarian cancer. Since there is currently no screening test for ovarian cancer, we also want to increase awareness of the early warning signs of the disease, which are frequently dismissed or misinterpreted as less serious issues.

Any donations are hugely appreciated. Please share this story with your friends, families and colleagues or anyone who may wish to donate.
