Creative writing can support mindfulness, help you to organise thoughts and explore emotions, as well as ease anxiety and stress, so set aside some time, grab a notebook and your favourite pen, and settle in. This is a safe and brave space to explore the power of words and your unique imagination. In this session, we’ll invite inspiration from the world around us, objects in our home, as well as art, music and poetry and we’ll write with and in response to these

About the class and how to prepare
Grab a notebook and your favourite pen. Pour a cup of tea and light a candle. This is your time to explore your feelings, emotions and ideas through the gentle power of creative writing.
This session will be an invitation to explore creative ways of writing about your own life and experiences. Through a series of gentle and easy prompts, you’ll create a piece of writing that will express a part of you in a completely unique and personal way. There will be play and experimentation; there will be tears and laughter. You might like to share what your write; or sit back and listen. There’ll be no critique or pressure to write well; it’s all about finding your own way to express yourself and your experience.
Everyone is welcome, whether you are a seasoned writer or completely new to creative writing.
Most join us because they
- Would like a creative experience that helps them become calm & relaxed
- Want to learn new skills to help them manage stress, anxiety & overwhelm
- Want to prioritise their emotional, physical & mental wellbeing
- Want a little bit of time just for them
- Want a safe and brave space to connect with others and share their experience in a creative way
- And some come because they love to come into a space where they get to scribble and doodle, explore their imagination and creativity and create some writing that expresses their unique experience
Here’s what happens in the session:
- We will settle in with a brief welcome and grounding exercise
- Kathryn will share some thoughts or a reading to introduce a thematic focus
- We will do a warmup exercise, just to get the ink and inspiration flowing
- We will do more writing in response to short, guided prompts
- We may share some writing, or share thoughts about the writing, and sharing is always optional
- Kathryn will close the session with a short reading to send everyone off
