Yoga for Wellbeing

Join Ovacome and Louise Rogers for an accessible online yoga class, welcoming those at every stage of their ovarian cancer journey.

Tickets
£0 - £20

Join Louise for sessions that offer something for the whole person: movement to build functional strength, mobility and bone density; breathwork to calm the nervous system and quiet the mind; and restorative practices to help you reconnect with your body and find moments of stillness.

No previous yoga experience is needed. Everyone is welcome, exactly as you are.

Please note that if you have recently had surgery you must be at least 6 weeks post-op to take part.

Please consult with your doctor before taking up any new form of exercise. Louise's role is to provide verbal and visual guidance on how to practise yoga at home, and neither she nor Ovacome can accept any liability for injury. If you experience any pain or discomfort during the session, please stop immediately.

More about the teacher

Louise Rogers has been practising yoga for over 30 years and teaching for 15. Her work has always centred on women’s health across different life stages and transitions, including menopause, hormonal change, and healthy ageing with strength, ease and grace.

Louise has a particular interest in functional movement and healthy ageing: how we keep our bodies strong, mobile and resilient as life changes around us. She weaves mental and emotional wellbeing into everything she teaches, drawing on her background in mindfulness and her experience supporting people affected by cancer through her work with The Fountain Centre charity.

Her classes are warm, unhurried and genuinely inclusive, with clear guidance and plenty of options so every participant can move in a way that feels right for them.

More about the sessions

Movement is medicine. Gentle, consistent yoga practice can ease pain and fatigue, support sleep, reduce stress and help regulate mood, anxiety and self-esteem. It can also support immune function. We know that reducing stress has a positive effect on the body’s natural defences.

Sessions begin with a few minutes to settle in and say hello. Louise will then guide you through around 45 minutes of practice, with adaptations and options throughout. You choose what works for your body on the day. Every class closes with a period of rest, an invitation to let your body receive the benefits of the movement and simply be still for a while.

Alongside the physical practice, there’s something equally nourishing about being in a group of women who understand what you’re going through. These sessions are a chance to feel supported, motivated and uplifted. A regular moment in your week that belongs entirely to you

You might come because you’d like to:
  • Reconnect gently with your body
  • Find a little space and ease amongst the busyness of treatment or recovery
  • Feel held in a supportive group of women who understand
  • Build strength and mobility at a pace that feels safe and kind
  • Explore practices that support your sleep, mood and overall wellbeing

How to prepare for a session

Before the session, it’s worth taking a few minutes to get your space ready so you can relax and make the most of your practice.

  • Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed, with enough room to lie down and extend your arms out to the sides
  • Have a non-slip yoga mat if you have one. A folded blanket or towel works just as well
  • Keep a cushion or pillow, a blanket, and a chair nearby. These are used regularly throughout the class
  • Wear something loose and comfortable that you can move freely in
  • Have a glass of water to hand
  • Pop on a pair of warm socks for the rest at the end of class
No specialist equipment is needed. Come as you are.

Support available to access online sessions

If you require support to attend one of our online sessions, please let us know when you sign up. Some examples of support we can give include:

  • Enabling translated captioning
  • Closed captioning is available on all our Zoom sessions
  • Sending out transcripts of workshop sessions (where appropriate)
  • Translators including BSL.  We usually require around three weeks advanced notice to allow for booking.
  • Tech assistance – we have a user guide to help with our online Zoom events and we are here to help people get connected. We can set up a practice Zoom meeting with a member of the Ovacome team. We can also talk through any questions you may have about this technology.
  • Financial assistance - we want to ensure that every Ovacome member can access the workshops they want to without worrying about the associated costs. For example, we can cover the internet costs for people who would like to join our online workshops.
