Help me to make a difference to those affected by ovarian cancer
During July, Hannah and Daniel and I will be taking on a challenge that means a great deal to us. Together, we will walk an average of more than 10,570 steps each day throughout the month with the aim of completing a total of 1 million steps combined, in memory of my amazing wife, Alison Cookson, who we sadly lost to ovarian cancer in August 2021.
Ally was the centre of our family. She faced life with positivity, determination, kindness and an incredible sense of humour. She embraced every moment and every opportunity, and those who knew her will understand why we often say that she truly lived a "Life lived loved." She filled her life with love, and she made sure everyone around her felt loved too.
This challenge is our way of celebrating Ally's life and honouring her memory, while raising money for a cause that is incredibly important to us.
I’m sure we won’t be taking on this challenge alone, as out fantastic support team of Joanne, Jody and Ellie will be joining us as much as possible along the way. Their encouragement and support mean so much to us, and we will be incredibly grateful to have them alongside us as we take on this challenge in Ally’s memory.
We are fundraising for Ovacome, the UK's national ovarian cancer support charity. Ovacome provides expert support, information and a vital community for anyone affected by ovarian cancer – whether they have been diagnosed, are worried about symptoms, are supporting a loved one, or work within healthcare.
Ovarian cancer can be an isolating and frightening diagnosis. Ovacome helps to reduce that isolation by providing specialist support through its telephone helpline, email services, online forums, support groups, workshops and events. Their work ensures that nobody has to face ovarian cancer alone.
As an independent charity, Ovacome receives no government funding and relies entirely on the generosity of donors and fundraisers to continue its life-changing work. Every donation, no matter the size, helps provide essential support, trusted information and a compassionate community to people when they need it most.
Throughout July, every step we take will be for Ally and for the thousands of people and families whose lives are affected by ovarian cancer.
If you are able to support us, we would be incredibly grateful. Whether through a donation or by sharing this page with your friends, family, colleagues and social networks, you will be helping Ovacome continue its vital work.
Thank you for helping us remember Alison, celebrate a life truly lived and loved, and support others facing ovarian cancer today.
For Ally, and for every family affected by ovarian cancer.
