Touch of Teal Models 2025

Our Group/Family

I am raising funds for Ovacome but I need your help!

Who Am I? Hello, my name is Sue, I am 58 and have Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer

What am I doing?  This September, during Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, I'll be taking centre stage on the Touch of Teal catwalk as someone with an ovarian cancer diagnosis. It is an annual awareness-raising fashion event that will help to shine a powerful light on often-missed symptoms of ovarian cancer and inspire early detection.  Fun Fact: Cervical smear tests do NOT detect Ovarian Cancer!

My Story! Between Jun and Dec of 2022, I visited my GP three times complaining of unexplained abdominal pain. They examined my bloated tummy and tested my urine for UTIs but never once offered me a CA125 blood test (a valuable tool in helping to diagnose OC). Astoundingly, the female GP who saw me seemed as oblivious to the classic OC symptoms as me! By my third appt, I was in so much pain, I cried and was diagnosed with mild depression. Unfortunately, at the time I had been extremely stressed - my mother and husband were both ill, so I suppose this diagnosis wasn’t altogether surprising.

However, by Jan 2023, my pain had worsened and I could hardly eat from feeling so full so my daughter Zoe pushed me to insist on an ultrasound scan. Although that took a while to sort, I’ll forever be grateful for my daughter’s perseverance. The diagnosis of cancer was obviously devastating for both myself and my family, but thankfully things moved pretty quickly after that.

My first appointment with an oncologist a few weeks later (to inform me of the cancer’s staging), is all a bit of a blur if I’m honest. My dear mum had died that very same morning, and my husband was unable to be with me to hold my hand due to him being a few floors up from me in the hospital having chemo treatment!

My debulking surgery was scheduled for 16 March 2023 (on my birthday of all days); it was tough and I spent ten days in hospital recovering. This operation was followed up with eight gruelling cycles of chemotherapy from May-Sept. Thankfully, I have been NED (No Evidence of Disease) ever since, but realistically I know it’s just a matter of time before it returns.  EDIT: 11/08/25 - The beast has returned - hate this disease so much!

Why donate?  Cancer doesn’t have to define who we are or what we can achieve. Preparing for Touch of Teal with eleven other inspiring ladies has brought laughter, purpose and hope - my hope is that donations will lead to improved treatments for ovarian cancer, enable earlier detection, and inspire others through our stories.  We’ll probably be in heels, possibly emotional, and definitely proud. I’d love your support on the catwalk.

Please consider giving a small donation if you are able. Ovacome reduces isolation, provides expert information, promotes understanding of ovarian cancer and its symptoms, and supports those affected by it in their time of need. Twenty ladies are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each day in the UK, and 8 of them will be so poorly that they go to A&E before diagnosis, without realising that their symptoms are caused by ovarian cancer.

B.E.A.T. If you or a loved one are experiencing BLOATING (B), changes in EATING habits (E), ABDOMINAL pain (A) or TOILET changes (T) Ovarian Cancer Symptom Diary | Ovacome (it’s really unusual for women over 50 to start experiencing IBS symptoms) go to your GP!

Earlier diagnosis saves lives!

Thank you — for reading, sharing, donating, and being your wonderful selves.

I’m back with the sequel no one ever asked for!

Monday 18th Aug
18 August 2025
So yeh, after raising CA125 levels and familiar symptoms of a bloated tummy/pain in the abdomen, my oncologist referred me for a PET scan. Although I knew it wouldn’t be good news, it was difficult to hear that the b’stard cancer was indeed back causing mischief and mayhem

Six months of chemotherapy will follow in September, and although that stinks, I am thankful that I am still being offered treatment to help extend my life for as long as possible. I have so much to live for, and will continue to fight for as long as I am able.

The good news is that I’ll still be able to participate in the fashion show on 13 September before treatment commences. The show must go on!

Thanks to all who have donated - you are all superstars in my eyes!

Thursday 7th Aug
I have been overwhelmed by the donations I have already received, but here’s hoping I can achieve my new goal of £2000 by the time I’m walking (or stumbling) down that catwalk on the afternoon of Saturday 13th September at The Mayfair Hotel, London.

I am blessed to have a bunch of fabulous family & close friends joining me on the day, and I suspect they may well be the noisiest. The iconic ‘Pretty Woman’ scene where Vivian cheers at the polo match in a non ladylike fashion? Yep, well no doubt that’ll be my daughter!

Because this charity means so much to me, my alter ego ‘Quizzy Sue’, has decided to donate all the hosting fees for music bingos & quizzes until the end of Sept 2025  (and will continue to do so if the target hasn’t been reached by then). On hindsight, this may backfire on me, as I’ve never been so bloomin’ busy!
