Mums Story

Thursday 16th Apr

Our Mum, Jane was diagnosed with a rare type of ovarian cancer a few years ago. 

She had a full hysterectomy (we thought this would be the end). 

The next couple of years involved regular check ups. Unfortunately at the end of 2025 Mum’s blood test came back high for a marker that detects her type of cancer. She had a CT scan and they found more tumours in her abdominal space and one close to her bowel.

 In Feb 2026 Mum has a very ‘radical’ surgery to remove the cancer. She is prepped for a very long surgery and longer recovery. Luckily the surgery went as best as it could. 

Mum had 20cm of her bowel removed as she had a 10cm tumour that her large bowel had wrapped around. The other tumours were also removed and 
Mum is still recovering from her surgery. ( She is doing absolutely amazing, most people wouldn’t even know how poorly she’s been). 

Mum will now be back to close monitoring - for life! 

Me (Zoey) and my sister Sam are about to start training for a half marathon (November). This will be a first half marathon for both of us. We are both fairly new runners so this will be a huge challenge. 

We are hoping to raise £1000 for Ovacome a charity that support people like our Mum.
