5K!

Ovacome is a UK based charity who supports those diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and other similar conditions. My story began in May 2023, at age 30, when I was diagnosed with a Borderline Ovarian Tumour (or BOT). Initially I had undergone diagnostic surgery for potential endometriosis, during surgery a cluster of cysts were found and sent for pathology on a 'just to be sure' basis and I was discharged and told to expect a letter in the post saying everything was normal. I left hospital feeling hopeful that the source of my pain had been found and I could begin a new, normal life. In the weeks that followed I received the dreaded phone call which changed the course of life as I knew it.

Fast-forward to now and after lots of scans, time spent in hospital, two further surgeries, infertility, hot flushes (hence the team name!) and lots of tears-I am now 33 years old and entering my second year of the menopause. This is the result of a recurrence of another tumour, requiring a hysterectomy.

Ovacome was an amazing support for me in the weeks after my diagnosis and quite honestly was one of the only resources I could find that had any information on BOT's. I used their helpline and those initial chats with a total stranger provided me with such comfort and a bit of rationality which was something I desperately needed at that time.

As someone who detests running and everything about it; this 5K on the 23rd May 2026 during Edinburgh Marathon Festival is something I wanted to challenge myself to and raise money for a cause that means so much to me. Any support you can offer is very much appreciated.

Thank you!
