In memory of Debbie-Baldwin

By Pravin Naicker

In memory of Debbie Baldwin, 3 Oct 1968 - 9 Sept 2021

Debbie passed away on 9 September in Holland. Debbie had a huge heart and freely provided support, friendship, strength and love to family, friends and even people she met for the first time. Her warmth on all occasions was evident and her smile would light up the room - as mentioned "once met never forgotten".

She continually raised awareness and supported charities throughout her life with sponsored walks, runs and climbed Kilimanjaro in 2017.

In March 2020, to mark Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Debbie shared her story in a blog. Here she spoke of the support she received following her diagnosis and encouraged women to be aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer. She asked those experiencing any of these symptoms to seek medical help from their doctor and to contact Ovacome for information and support.

In this blog, Debbie said: “The great support from family, friends and colleagues, and a positive attitude, have helped me deal with many of the challenges on this journey. I hope that promoting greater awareness about ovarian cancer will help other women and ultimately, save more lives.”

Debbie and her dad did a charity walk in 2021 to raise funds for Ovacome. Debbie completed 26.2 miles even though she was in the middle of a drug trial which had an impact on her health.

There are 2 quotes which epitomizes Debbie’s spirit; “Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier” and “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others”. Her memory and legacy will live on through so many.

Thanks for your support, love and friendship for Deb. It meant the world to her, and she will be looking down at us all with her big smile and beautiful eyes.

On 19 March 2022, over 140 people joined together to celebrate Debbie’s life and raise money for Ovacome at the first Annual Ovacome Gala in memory of Debbie Baldwin. The event raised £46,348 for those affected by ovarian cancer in Debbie’s name.

To mark Debbie's first anniversary, in September 2022 her husband Prav and good friends Angie, Kathy, John and Deb climbed to Everest basecamp, raising £3,065 for Ovacome's support services in Debbie's honour. On 9 September 2023, six of Debbie's friends (Phil, Simon, Stuart, Dan, Steve, and Paul) cycled from the London Eye to the Eiffel Tower in just 23hrs 53mins to continue her legacy of supporting those affected by ovarian cancer. They raised a spectacular £42,572.

For Steve "Froderick" Morten. He was larger than life itself. He was always honest with his opinions which was refreshing. He gave everything to family and friends and there was absolutely no doubt that he would help anyone in need. We had some fantastic laughs and great times as a family. You, Carol and Wendy will be giving everyone hell wherever you are!! RIP Big Steve.
