Anne explained that she wanted her experience to be defined by more than loss or illness. She said that if sharing her story “can help even one person recognise the signs earlier, ask one more question, or feel less alone in their diagnosis, then that gives purpose to what [she’s] going through".
Among those going the distance is London Marathon runner Jo, who is fundraising for Ovacome in memory of her mum. She hopes her efforts will “help others who may be in a similar position.” In the lead-up to race day, Jo organised a workplace bake sale, raising £294 and building momentum ahead of the marathon.
Other workplaces also contributed to the campaign’s success. Staff at the Pension Insurance Corporation organised fundraising activities while raising awareness among colleagues. Isabel, a participant, noted that the initiative helped start "open and supportive conversations about ovarian cancer and women’s health more broadly", adding that the support and resources provided by Ovacome made it easy to get involved.
Many previous supporters returned to host yet another fundraiser this March, such as Cat, whose annual ‘Choirfest Singathon’ on International Womens Day brought 76 singers together for an evening of music and fundraising. The event has supported Ovacome since 2019 and has now raised nearly £2,000 in total. You can listen to 76 voices for Ovacome singing here.
From coffee mornings to marathons, these collective efforts reflect the strength of the community behind Ovacome’s mission. Every
fundraising activity helps to increase awareness of ovarian cancer, ensuring more people can access the information and support they need. This year’s total marks another significant step forward in sustaining essential services and reaching those affected across the UK.
If you donated, shared our resources, or supported Ovacome in any way this OCAM, thank you. Without your support, our services wouldn’t be possible.
OCAM may be over, but we need your support all year round. Our community is walking 500 miles collectively for World Ovarian Cancer Day – will you join us this May? Whether you’re putting on your own walking boots or baking cakes for the walkers’ finish line, we’d love to hear from you and support your plans. Make your miles matter this May! With Ovacome’s 30th anniversary coming up in 2026, it’s never too early to plan a fundraiser. Our team will support your fundraising every step of the way. Get in touch via the button below.
